Google Hamina - DC8

Google's Hamina data center campus, located in Hamina, Finland, is a significant digital hub that began with the purchase of a former paper mill in 2009. The campus has seen a total investment of €3.5 billion to date, reflecting a deep commitment to the region and community growth. The facility utilizes innovative cooling systems drawing seawater from the Bay of Finland and features a new offsite heat recovery facility, a collaboration with Haminan Energia, designed to warm local homes and businesses and expected to meet an estimated 80% of demand. This initiative underscores Google's dedication to sustainability and energy efficiency. In 2023, Google achieved 98% carbon-free energy (CFE) usage in Finland, with a substantial portion matched by contracted CFE within the Finnish grid. The campus continues to expand, with announcements of a seventh data center and a €1 billion investment in Finland for sustainability and AI goals in 2024.
