Google Hamina - DC5

Google's Hamina data center campus in Finland, located at Ensontie 1, is a significant digital hub. The DC5 facility is purpose-built and part of a larger campus. Leveraging the Bay of Finland's seawater for cooling and a new offsite heat recovery facility in collaboration with Haminan Energia, the data center is at the forefront of Google's sustainability and energy-efficiency initiatives. This project is expected to meet an estimated 80% of local heating demand. Google has invested €3.5 billion in the Hamina region to date, with the first data center opening in 2011 after the acquisition of a former paper mill. In 2023, Google achieved 98% carbon-free energy usage in Finland. The company continues to expand its presence, announcing the construction of a seventh data center and a €1 billion investment in Finland for sustainability and AI goals.
