Firmus Launceston

Project Southgate is Firmus Technologies’ flagship AI Factory campus in Launceston, Tasmania, designed to anchor the world’s first government-backed AI Factory Zone. Powered entirely by Tasmania’s renewable energy, Southgate will deliver up to 400MW of liquid-cooled compute capacity, supporting a new class of Green AI Tokens for sustainable AI scaling.

The modular campus features 100% immersion and direct-to-chip cooling, consuming up to 60% less energy and costing up to 50% less to build than traditional data centers. Stage 1a will deploy 44MW by 2026, with Stage 1b doubling that to 90MW, followed by a planned 300MW expansion. Connected via high-speed fiber across Australia and globally, Southgate supports workloads from enterprise AI to gaming and HPC.

With an investment of $2.1 billion in Stage 1a alone, the project is expected to create hundreds of jobs and establish Tasmania as a global hub for clean, scalable AI infrastructure.
