VIRIDIS Burnie

VIRIDIS Green Data Centres is developing a 1MW Tier III, Zone 4 edge data center in Burnie, Tasmania, Australia, with a target go-live in the first half of 2027. Located at 39 Alexander St in the Burnie CBD, the facility will span 1,215 sqm and is designed to handle data classified up to Secret level. It will be the only data center of its kind in North-West Tasmania, addressing a critical infrastructure gap for regional government and industry. The design emphasizes resilience with full redundancy in power and cooling, and utilizes free-air cooling leveraging Burnie's cool climate. A staged clean-energy microgrid incorporating solar, battery storage, and hydrogen technology will provide long-duration backup power with near-zero emissions. The data center benefits from Tasmania's renewable electricity network, ensuring a low-emissions energy foundation. The project is expected to create local construction jobs during fit-out and ongoing operational roles.
