Viettel's data center (DC) has 8 floors, with a total floor area of 21,000 square meters – twice the size of the largest data center currently operating in Vietnam. The first floor includes a common lobby, medium-voltage rooms, a substation, and generator systems. The second floor houses the central control center, synchronization system, ATS cabinets, and power distribution system to the IT rooms on the upper floors. Floors 3-6 and half of floor 7 house the server rooms and UPS/battery systems. The remaining half of floor 7 and the rooftop contain the chiller water cooling system for the data center.
Viettel's data center has 2400 racks and a power consumption of 30 MW. Not only is it the largest and most modern data center in Vietnam to date, the Viettel Hoa Lac data center is also designed and deployed with infrastructure to support high-performance computing systems such as AI and Big Data.
Viettel's data center (DC) is specially designed and deployed in a dedicated area for customers requiring high-power racks for high-performance computing or AI processing with the most advanced solutions and technologies. It can accommodate racks with power capacities up to 20-40KW/rack and offers flexible, easy, and quick deployment to meet customer demands. The data center uses equipment from Vertiv, USA – a leading global provider of power and cooling solutions for data centers.
On the second floor is the Network Operations Center (NOC) – where the entire data center system is managed, operated, and monitored. All DC systems and equipment are integrated and centrally monitored at the NOC. The NOC ensures that all issues occurring at the DC can be monitored, detected, and resolved through the most advanced tools and software, as well as a 24/7 operational team with three layers: Layer 1 is for monitoring and incident handling; Layer 2 handles maintenance, servicing, parameter synchronization, and problem management; Layer 3 consists of lead engineers and experts performing design, optimization, and in-depth analysis. Notably, AI is widely applied in DC operations, such as identifying attack threats, analyzing ambient temperature to support rack cooling, and assisting in load balancing between racks. Thanks to AI, the DC's NOC doesn't require a large number of operating personnel simultaneously.
DC has three separate generator rooms, capable of deploying 20 independent generators with power levels of 1800KW, 2000KW, and 2400KW in various modules, and also offering flexible redundancy configurations depending on usage needs. Currently, the generator room has deployed three 1800KW generators, capable of continuous operation for up to 72 hours (3 days) during a power outage, via connection to the internal fuel tanks (in the generator room) and the underground data tanks (outside the building).
To build this data center, Viettel applied the most modern technology to meet international certifications and green data center standards. Notably, it achieved ANSI/TIA 942-B-2007 Constructed Facility Rated 3 (Level 3) certification for infrastructure construction, with the Telecommunications/Network Systems section specifically certified at Rated 4 (Level 4). This marks the first time a data center in Vietnam has been assessed and certified at Rated 4 – the highest level according to international standards for data center infrastructure planning, design, and construction.
