Microsoft is developing a new data center campus in Clarksville, Virginia, located in Lakeside Commerce Park. This expansion aims to address the increasing customer demand for cloud platform services, driven by trends such as teleworking, cloud-based data storage, gaming, and contactless living.
The new campus will be situated on 490 acres adjacent to Microsoft's existing AVC17 campus. The project involves the construction of three one-story data center buildings, along with supporting infrastructure like access roads, an on-site electrical substation, and a water storage facility.
This development is part of Microsoft's strategy within the southern Virginia region's Regional Network Group (RNG), where existing data centers are experiencing rapid capacity growth. The project is designed for optimal operational efficiencies and will be built in two phases, with the entire process anticipated to take four to five years. Specific details regarding the size and capacity of the data centers have not been disclosed.
