Microsoft has filed plans to construct a new data center campus, codenamed 'AVC17 Lakeside', in Clarksville, Virginia. Located within the Lakeside Commerce Park at Commerce Drive, the development spans 259.1 acres in Mecklenburg County. This expansion is intended to house servers for cloud-based computing and serve as an addition to Microsoft's existing Southern Virginia Regional Network Group, which has experienced rapid growth.
The proposed campus includes plans for three data center buildings. Project timelines, facility specifications, square footage, or capacity details were not disclosed in the filings. This new site is situated approximately 10 miles west of Microsoft's current data center campus near Boydton. The construction is expected to result in the permanent loss of nearly eight acres of wetlands and over 1,600 feet of stream channels.
