ZERO Downtime since 1998!
Earthnet is the most advanced data center in Boulder. The data center was designed and constructed to surpass local building area codes and seismic requirements.
Our facilities are triple earth-grounded and are built completely on computer-grade raised flooring. Overhead ladder-rack wiring systems are utilized for enhanced cooling and a more secure cable infrastructure. 4" ADC fiber tray is also available throughout the facility.
Providing the highest quality Internet connectivity and performance is our top priority. We have exclusively selected premium Tier-1 bandwidth providers, ensuring minimal latency (delay) and excellent reach ability on a global basis.
We are proud to feature direct connectivity with Mammoth and Century Link. Our aggregate Tier-2 peering includes Sprint, UUNet, Cable & Wireless, Genuity, NTT/Verio, Global Crossing, 360networks, Dash Carrier, Hurricane Electric, Internap, Century Link, RMIX, Tinet, and XO. Comcast maintains a presence in our Data Center.
We are also Boulder's first choice for Century Link Metro Optical Ethernet provider (QMOE) with Gigabit capabilities.
Earthnet is in constant reporting for SSAE16 type II certification (formerly SAS70). The reporting period ends in on 10/31 each year and a new report should be available yearly by 12/31. Let us know if you'd like to see a copy, we are happy to provide it!
Our power systems feature extensive fault tolerance and resilience at every layer, guaranteeing smooth and uninterrupted power for your equipment.
Incoming service is routed underground to our ASCO Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS), which also connects to our backup power generation facilities. Power is then routed through a Liebert Interceptor Series Transient Voltage Surge Suppression system (TVSS). A TVSS system diverts transient voltage to ground, protecting sensitive equipment from power fluctuations due to usage or surging.
Earthnet utilizes a pair of redundant 300kVa Powerware 9315 Uninterruptible Power Supplies. Each unit features dual battery cabinets and a full maintenance bypass allowing for service and upgrades without interruption of power to our servers. All UPS batteries were last replaced in 2011. Pulazzi power distribution units handle final power transformation, suppression, and distribution to racks.
Generator backup services are provided to our facility by a Volvo powered Elliott-Magnatek 350KW diesel generator featuring over 24 hours of autonomous runtime before requiring refueling. Generator power is activated automatically in the event of a grid failure by an ASCO automatic transfer switch. The intermediate load is capable of being handled for over an hour by the Powerware UPS System, even though the generator is active and up to speed within 20 seconds of a power failure. Additionally, the generator is tested weekly to ensure that it will continue to function in the event of an emergency.
Environmental processing systems include fully redundant Liebert System3 20-ton up-flow air conditioning units, as well as a 20-ton economizer. Temperature and humidity are precisely regulated year round to ensure optimal equipment reliability.
Each unit contains independent compressors and cooling loops to further enhance fault tolerance and reliability. Our Liebert AC Units continuously pump chilled air into the pressurized raised floor of our data center, maintaining a constant operating environment for your servers. In the event of a malfunction or failure, the equipment will generate an alarm to notify our staff. Air filtration systems actively remove foreign particulates from circulation and cycle the entire data center air supply in a matter of minutes.
Data center access is strictly limited to technical staff. Clients not on our access-list are not allowed into the data center without an escort.
Access to the data center and attached facilities requires a card-key. Electronic security systems controlled data center access and are accompanied by a full compliment of motion detectors which are strategically placed throughout the entire facility. Our security system is fully logged and monitored locally, as well as by Safe Systems externally.
6 video cameras provide 24/7 video surveillance.
Ask the other Boulder datacenter about their water sprinklers (servers hate water)! Earthnet is equipped with a Fike Cheetah FM-200 clean agent (FM-200 Gas) fire suppression system, with tightly defined zones to isolate and extinguish any fires without affecting surrounding areas. Fire extinguishers are also located throughout the facility.
The FM-200 system must detect both smoke and heat to be triggered. We utilize a grid of sensors in the ceiling and under the raised flooring, plus VESDAT (Very Early Warning Smoke Detection) laser smoke sensors. Aspiration type air-sampling systems are the cutting edge of early fire detection. They may achieve levels of sensitivity and performance as much as 1000 times greater than conventional, spot-type detectors. Our state-of-the-art fire suppression system is monitored 24 x 7 on-site with an XR5 Fire Panel and off-site by Safe Systems
