Behring Cos. is converting the vacant 83,000-square-foot building at 415 20th Street in Oakland, California, into a 20MW data center. This facility, previously known as the Oakland Scientific Facility and used for supercomputing by Lawrence Berkeley National Labs, is being renovated to support dense AI compute. The site offers significant power capabilities and is strategically located with direct BART access, making it highly accessible and close to San Francisco. The building, which includes over 20,000 sq ft of raised-floor data center space, has attracted interest from robotics companies, AI research firms, and cloud providers. Behring Cos., a California-based real estate investment firm, acquired the property in December. The facility's history includes hosting hardware for the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC) from around 2001.
