The Samsung SDS Dongtan IDC is South Korea’s first high-performance computing (HPC) dedicated data center, located in Dongtan, Gyeonggi Province. Opened in December 2022, the facility spans six floors with four server rooms and operates with a PUE of 1.12, enabled by natural air cooling. Instead of traditional air-conditioning, the center utilizes outside wind and the region’s colder climate, aiming to reduce 21,443 tons of greenhouse gas emissions by 2035.
The main server room on the first floor converts 22,900 volts of electricity from Korea Electric Power Corp (KEPCO) into 6,600 volts for data center operations. Dongtan IDC is the only data center in South Korea with mutual backup across three facilities, ensuring high redundancy and disaster recovery capabilities. Samsung SDS plans to expand its cloud services, offering customized solutions for AI, big data analysis, and enterprise digital transformation.
