SGC Gunsan

SGC Gunsan is a significant AI data center development by South Korean energy company SGC Energy, located in the Gunsan National Industrial Complex 2. This project marks SGC Energy's entry into the AI data center business, with plans to expand its operations beyond energy infrastructure to data center development and investment.

The facility will eventually reach a capacity of 300MW. The initial phase will involve a 40MW modular data center, with construction scheduled to commence later this year and operations expected to begin in Q1 2028. The data center will be situated on approximately 9,290 sqm of land owned by SGC Green Power, an affiliate of SGC Energy.

A key feature of the SGC Gunsan data center is its coastal location, enabling the use of deep ocean water for cooling systems to manage heat efficiently. Additionally, the site benefits from on-site power generation, which is expected to optimize Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) and enhance operational economics. SGC Energy is collaborating with KT, a major telecommunications provider, and Mirae Asset Securities, an investment bank, on this venture. The project is attracting interest from major global tech companies, indicating strong demand.
