Equinix is proposing the development of two data centers in Cape Town, South Africa, located at King Air Industria, Pallotti Rd. These facilities are projected to have a combined capacity of up to 160MW. Equinix has stated its commitment to achieving 100% renewable energy coverage globally by 2030, with plans for South African operations to utilize Power Purchase Agreements, Energy Attribute Certificates, and direct investment in renewable generation. The City of Cape Town is reviewing the rezoning application and has indicated that data center operators typically bear the costs for network impacts and are encouraged to self-build network infrastructure. The city also promotes the use of alternative water sources for high-consumption industrial users like data centers.
