Arcem Bergen

Arcem Bergen is an ambitious data center project planned by Arcem, Inc. in Haukeland, Norway, with an estimated investment of several billion kroner. The site in Langedalen, south of Arna station, is highlighted for its exceptional location, benefiting from proximity to the Arna substation, good connectivity to E16 and Flesland, and existing industrial zoning.

The project anticipates significant economic impact, creating thousands of jobs during construction and numerous permanent roles in IT, operations, and security once operational. It is positioned as a long-term, skill-intensive enterprise. The development is expected to drive substantial upgrades to local energy and digital infrastructure, with potential for surplus heat utilization.

Arcem Bergen aims for a low climate footprint, seeking up to 130 MW of power capacity and emphasizing the use of renewable Norwegian energy. The company views data centers as modern green industry, noting their relatively low direct emissions and the environmental advantages of a renewable energy mix. The facility is designed for energy-efficient operations.

Data centers are described as the backbone of digital infrastructure, essential for businesses, healthcare, defense, and public services. Norway is presented as a preferred location due to its renewable energy, stable climate, and political predictability. The project is currently in the planning phase, with a plan initiative submitted to Bergen municipality for review.
