Data Igloo Tangiwai

Data Igloo Ruapehu is a proposed storage-focused data center development situated at the former Winstone Pulp International mill site in Tangiwai, New Zealand. The facility is being developed by Data Igloo Limited, a company specializing in "sovereign cold data centers" designed for backup, recovery, and long-term data retention. The campus is intended to accommodate multi-exabyte deployments and grow with data needs, serving sectors such as enterprise, healthcare, research, and AI training. Data Igloo aims to address the escalating costs of energy and infrastructure in the data center industry by developing ultra-low-energy infrastructure for large-scale data storage, complementing separate compute facilities. The project is expected to bring significant investment and employment opportunities to the Ruapehu district.
