The Suriname Internet Exchange (SUR-IX) is a non-profit association established in October 2019. It was founded by the three operational Internet Service Providers in Suriname—Telesur, Digicel, and Parbonet—along with other stakeholders including Datasur, AdeKUS, CBvS, DNV, E-Gov, KirpalaniKOM, and the Telecommunications Authority Suriname (TAS). The primary goal of SUR-IX is to keep local internet traffic within Suriname, reducing costs and enhancing security.

The technical infrastructure of SUR-IX is housed at Datasur, chosen for its reliable facilities, including guaranteed electricity supply, cooling, and security. By keeping internet traffic local, SUR-IX aims to save on international traffic costs and improve the robustness of the internet in Suriname.
