Uniper Hesse

Energy firm Uniper is constructing a significant data center hub at its former Staudinger power plant site in Großkrotzenburg, Germany. The project will repurpose land previously occupied by a coal-fired power station, which is currently being demolished. The new complex will feature data centers, a battery energy storage system (BESS), and a new gas-fired power plant, aiming to leverage Uniper's energy infrastructure. Approximately 4.94 million sq ft (459,000 sqm) of land is allocated for these facilities. A nearby substation is being expanded by grid operator Tennet to support the hub's construction. Uniper, nationalized in 2022, is investing heavily in energy infrastructure and exploring revenue opportunities with data center operators. Hesse is a mature data center market, and this development is situated near Frankfurt.
