HiCloud Hainan is a groundbreaking underwater data center initiative located in Lingshui Li Autonomous County, Yingzhou, Sanya, China. This project, supported by the Chinese government and involving Amazon's Chinese partner, Beijing Sinnet, aims to deploy a fleet of 100 underwater modules. A prototype vessel, equipped with servers, firewalls, and UPS, has undergone live testing with China Telecom (Hainan) business applications. The Cloud Computing & Big Data Research Institute (CCBDRI) is evaluating the potential of these submerged facilities to reduce environmental impact, with a report expected in July. The project leverages seawater for cooling, enhancing energy efficiency and conserving land resources. Highlander plans to expand this concept to other regions in China, including the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Yangtze River Delta, and the Bohai Rim Economic Circle.
