Microsoft has broken ground on a new data center campus in Cheyenne, Wyoming, located on HR Ranch Road east of the city. The company has contracted JE Dunn as the general contractor, with construction expected to span 18–24 months. Heavy earthwork is scheduled from July through November 2025, and the facility is projected to be operational by early 2026.
The site is adjacent to key infrastructure, including the Cheyenne Prairie Generation Station and the Dry Creek Waste Water Treatment facility. While specific design and capacity details have not been disclosed, the project adds to Microsoft’s growing presence in Wyoming, which began in 2012 and includes facilities in the Cheyenne Business Parkway and Bison Business Park.
This development follows the recent expansion of the North Range Business Park by over 920 acres to support future Microsoft data center growth. The company also completed a hydrogen fuel cell pilot project in Cheyenne last year, successfully powering a facility for 48 hours during a simulated backup event.
