Project Peanut is Google's newly unveiled data center initiative in Chesterfield County, Virginia, forming part of a broader $9 billion investment in the state’s digital infrastructure. The facility will be built on a 300-acre site at 2700 Bermuda Hundred Road, near Meadowville Technology Park—land quietly acquired in 2020 under the name Peanut LLC.
The Chesterfield data center marks the first phase of a multi-building campus designed to support Google’s cloud computing and AI operations. While specific capacity and square footage details remain undisclosed, construction is expected to begin by the end of 2025, with a typical build timeline of 18 to 24 months.
The project is strategically linked to a nearby 400 MW nuclear fusion power plant planned by Commonwealth Fusion Systems, from which Google will purchase half the generated electricity. This signals a forward-looking approach to sustainable energy sourcing for hyperscale infrastructure.
