IAD data centers are part of the us-east-1 AWS region: US East (N. Virginia).
Amazon Data Services has been confirmed as the end user for two data centers located at 13860 and 13876 Redskin Drive in Herndon, Fairfax County, Virginia. These facilities, designated IAD-500 and IAD-501, are part of the Renaissance Technology Park, a 60-acre site being redeveloped by Starwood Capital into a multi-phase data center campus.
The project includes four planned data centers totaling 2.14 million sq ft. Amazon has filed for air permits to install 72 stationary engine generators and two mobile units at the site. Building permits for the first facility have been approved, while the second remains under review.
Starwood acquired the property in 2019 for $134.1 million and began demolition of older warehouse buildings in 2021. The site is adjacent to a former NFL training ground also purchased by Starwood, further expanding its footprint in the area.
