Amazon AWS is planning the development of the Bridgefield Tech Center, a significant new data center campus located in Ashburn, Virginia. The project involves the construction of four data center buildings, totaling approximately 800,000 square feet. This development is situated on a 122-acre site that Amazon acquired from George Washington University for $427 million. The university will retain use of the property for up to five years during its relocation process. The site was formerly the university's Virginia Science and Technology Campus. Amazon has a substantial and expanding presence in Virginia, with its first cloud facilities established in Loudoun County in 2006. The Bridgefield Tech Center represents a continuation of this growth in the region.
