Valar Atomics is planning a significant data center development, codenamed Project Beehive, on over 9,000 acres near Price, Utah. This ambitious project aims to be powered by up to 456 small modular reactors (SMRs), potentially providing 9.6GW of electrical capacity and thermal heat for reuse. The campus will also include facilities for nuclear fuel production and nuclear waste storage.
Founded in 2023, Valar Atomics is developing a Generation IV high-temperature gas reactor (HTGR). Their 5MW advanced reactor design, Ward 250, has undergone a zero-power fueled criticality demonstration. The company intends to deploy 25MW reactors at the Wellington site. Construction is anticipated to begin soon, with the first reactors expected to be operational in 2028 and the full build-out by 2032. The project involves both federal and state land, and is currently undergoing review by the Bureau of Land Management, including a public input process.
