Popca LLC has proposed a two-building data center campus located at 819 Newton Road in Newton Township, Pennsylvania. The development is planned for a 76-acre site and each of the two proposed buildings would span 145,200 sq ft (13,490 sqm). An on-site substation is also part of the development plans. The project faced an initial denial due to zoning regulations, as data centers are not currently an allowed use in the township's rural resource zoning district. An appeal is scheduled to be heard by the township zoning hearing board. The owner of Popca LLC is local landowner Mark Gawron, who reportedly acquired the site in 2017. Newton Township is situated in Lackawanna County, northeast Pennsylvania, a region that has seen numerous data center proposals recently.
