Atlas Power Willinston

Atlas Power’s Williston data center is located in Williams County, North Dakota. The site forms part of the company’s portfolio of high-flexibility infrastructure designed to support energy-intensive operations such as Bitcoin mining and GPU-as-a-Service workloads.

The facility is built to operate as an interruptible load center, allowing rapid adjustment of power usage in response to grid conditions. This setup contributes to system stability and supports the integration of renewables into the regional energy mix.

Despite its strategic purpose, the Williston site faced widespread environmental noise complaints from nearby communities. The source was traced to the hum of cooling fans. In response, Atlas Power installed a large acoustic barrier wall at a cost of $5 million, though subsequent analysis revealed that the solution was ineffective in mitigating low-frequency noise.
