Microsoft Boyd Farms (CLT13) is a planned data center facility located in Maiden, North Carolina, on a 294.73-acre site. This facility is part of the larger Microsoft Boyd Farm Campus, which is under construction and aims to expand cloud infrastructure capacity for Microsoft's North Carolina Regional Network Gateway (RNG).
The campus will feature five data center buildings: CLT10, CLT11, CLT12, CLT13, and CLT14. Each building is projected to offer up to 48MW of capacity. The development prioritizes environmental considerations, with construction focused on approximately 80 acres of the total site. This approach allows for the preservation of significant open space and aims to minimize environmental impact by avoiding much of the site's 100-year floodplain and stream channels.
The strategic location of the Boyd Farm Campus is crucial for its role within the North Carolina RNG, ensuring it is situated within 20 kilometers of other data centers in the network. The site also includes provisions for a dedicated Duke Energy substation.
