Robena Mine Data Center

A significant data center project is proposed for the former Robena Mine site in Greene County, Pennsylvania, spanning 1,400 acres. This initiative, a collaboration between Essential Utilities and International Electric Power (IEP), aims to leverage the site's advantages, including local natural gas supply, a skilled workforce, dark fiber network, and ample water. The facility is slated to feature on-site power generation with 910MW of natural gas turbines from Essential Utilities, supported by a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) from Eos Energy Enterprises. A firm grid connection is expected to ensure high reliability. The project plans to utilize an 18 million-gallon-a-day water treatment facility on the Monongahela River for power generation and cooling, minimizing watershed impact. Construction could create over 1,000 jobs, with a potential online date as early as 2029. Essential's subsidiary, Peoples, will provide gas consulting and energy management services.
