Big Sky Digital Infrastructure (BSDI) is developing the Big Sky Campus, a 5,000-acre energy and technology hub located north of Billings, Montana. This expansive campus is designed to provide the next generation of data, AI, and digital infrastructure for the region.
BSDI integrates renewable energy sources, reliable grid power from NorthWestern Energy, and new regional fiber optic connections. The campus will support multiple data center buildings, with Phase 1 construction planned to commence in 2026. Power capacity is set to ramp up to 500 MW in Phase 1 starting in 2028 and another 500 MW in Phase 2 starting in 2031. The site is slated for connection to hundreds of miles of new fiber-ready underground conduit, linking to major hubs like Seattle and Salt Lake City, as well as local communities.
Phase 1 will feature large-scale on-site solar, wind, and battery storage for a zero-carbon, resilient energy mix. The project aims to create construction and long-term technical jobs, foster workforce development through partnerships with educational institutions, and enhance broadband connectivity in underserved areas, contributing significant tax revenue and economic multipliers to Yellowstone County and the state of Montana.
