Amazon Web Services (AWS) is proposing "Project Green," a significant data center development spanning approximately 1,000 acres in New Florence, Missouri, located west of the St. Louis market. The project, filed via NorthPoint Development, LLC, is planned in two phases. Phase one includes the construction of eight data center buildings, with a potential second phase for an additional 13 buildings. The development will also feature stormwater management ponds, wells, and a water treatment plant. Power will be supplied by Ameren Missouri. AWS is expected to finalize property acquisition in the first quarter of 2026. Community feedback has been mixed, with some residents expressing concerns regarding environmental impact, noise, water and electricity usage, and potential effects on property values and community character. The project has received a tax abatement and incentive program, which the commission stated does not reduce AWS' real property tax payments.
