Hermantown Data Center

A data center project, tentatively named the Hermantown Data Center, is proposed for a 403-acre site in Hermantown, Minnesota, a suburb of Duluth. The facility is planned to comprise four buildings.

The Hermantown City Council voted to adopt a proposal for the data center, referred to as the ‘Alternative Urban Area Review,’ on October 6. The site is bounded by Morris Thomas Road, Midway Road, and Solway Road.

Concerns have been raised by various entities regarding potential increases in electricity and water consumption, noise pollution, the impact on the local environment's character, and the adequacy of the proposed mitigation strategies.

Completion of the data center is estimated to take between five to ten years. The end user and specific capacity details have not been disclosed. Hermantown is not currently a major data center hub, with most of Minnesota's data centers located near Minneapolis.
