A new data center has been proposed for Pavilion Township, southeast of Kalamazoo, Michigan. The site is located near South 26th Street and East N Avenue, and the proposal is currently in its early stages. Real estate firm Franklin Partners, which owns the land, is seeking to add “data center” as a Special Exception use under the I-2 heavy industrial zoning designation.

While technical specifications and the end-user have not yet been disclosed, the proposal signals potential for industrial-scale digital infrastructure in a region that currently lacks major data center presence. Most of Michigan’s existing facilities are concentrated around Detroit, with smaller clusters in Lansing and Grand Rapids.

Local utility Consumers Energy has acknowledged the development and expressed readiness to support future industrial growth, though details remain confidential at this stage. Community concerns have emerged around energy and water usage, which will likely be addressed as the planning process moves forward.
