Amazon Web Services (AWS) is exploring the development of a data center campus in Calvert County, Maryland. The proposed site is located near the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant at 1650 Calvert Cliffs Parkway in Lusby.

During a recent open house meeting, AWS presented a concept design for the campus, which could potentially feature up to eight data centers. The property is already zoned for heavy industrial use, eliminating the need for rezoning.

While preliminary review, regulatory analysis, site evaluation, and early design concepts have been conducted, no formal proposal has been submitted to date. Specific details regarding the size of the buildings or expected IT capacity have not been disclosed. It remains unclear if the facilities would have a direct power connection to the nuclear plant.

This potential development aligns with AWS's broader expansion plans in Maryland, including its US East (Northern Virginia) cloud region and the planned landing of the Fastnet subsea cable in the state.
