MidAmerican Salix

MidAmerican Energy Company is exploring the development of a large-scale data center campus on a 900-acre parcel of land in Salix, Iowa. The company, through its affiliate Midwest Capital Group, Inc., has secured options on the property, which was annexed by the Salix City Council. MidAmerican's involvement focuses on identifying and securing a suitable site for a significant electric customer. Any future data center operator would be responsible for the full cost of necessary infrastructure, including generation, transmission, and substation investments, and would adhere to approved electric rates for large customers. While no end-user has been selected, the project faces local opposition from residents concerned about the impact of industrial development near their homes. Woodbury County, which previously had jurisdiction over the land, has implemented a moratorium on data centers in unincorporated areas.
