OpenAI is developing a significant data center campus, codenamed Project Camelia, in Effingham County, Georgia. Situated within the Savannah Gateway Industrial Hub, the facility is planned to have a massive 3.2GW power capacity. OpenAI is contracting this energy from Georgia Power Company, with delivery scheduled between 2028 and 2032. The project emphasizes responsible operation, including a closed-loop water system for cooling that will not divert water from local communities. OpenAI will cover the full cost of infrastructure and electric services, and will implement up to 1GW of flexible demand response to reduce consumption during peak demand periods. The company is also committing $80 million to a community fund and offering up to $71 million in Codex credits to Georgia students.
