Fibernet MercuryDelta (FMD) is developing the world’s largest off-grid green energy data center campus, spanning over 20 million square feet. The site will integrate 2GW of solar power, expandable to 10GW, and a 500MW battery storage system, with potential growth beyond 5GW. Additionally, 2GW of baseload power from an IPP coal plant will complement the renewable sources, ensuring continuous operation.
The project is designed to address the increasing demand for AI-driven infrastructure, as hyperscale companies plan $50 billion in AI investments over the next year. With the US projected to add 60GW of data center capacity while retiring 80GW of baseload power by 2030, FMD aims to provide a sustainable, high-capacity solution for future computing needs.
FMD is led by Lane Livingston, CEO of Fibernet Corporation, with over 30 years of data center experience, and Ray Conley, a venture capital executive with significant investments in technology, energy, and biotechnology. The development marks several industry firsts, including the first fully off-grid data center campus and the first to control its entire power supply chain at scale.
