Visit WebsiteThe Imperial Data Center, proposed by Imperial Valley Computer Manufacturing (IVCM), is a large-scale project planned for 74 acres at 2304 Clark Road in Imperial, California. The facility is slated to be a 950,000 sq ft, single-story data center with a capacity of 330MW. It will also include a 330MW emergency backup generator building, an on-site substation, and a substantial 862MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) comprising 220 Tesla Megapack 2XL fuel cells. This BESS will exclusively power the data center and is not connected to the grid. Additionally, 100 natural gas-powered backup generators are planned, linked to the Southern California Gas Company's high-pressure gas line.
The project, valued at $10 billion and aiming for Tier IV quality, is anticipated to be operational as early as January 2027, according to the local utility, Imperial Irrigation District (IID). While local press reports suggest a major US tech giant as a potential tenant, with Google previously showing interest, official confirmation is pending. The development has generated local controversy regarding transparency and environmental impact, particularly concerning water usage and energy demands.
