Carbon3.ai is proposing to develop a new AI data center at the former Octel factory site in Amlwch Port, North Wales. The project involves adapting and reusing existing buildings within the industrial complex to create a modern, energy-efficient facility.

This development aims to provide secure, sustainable, and high-capacity computing infrastructure to support the UK's growing digital and AI sectors. The location in North Wales aligns with the UK government's designation of the region as an AI Growth Zone, which offers benefits such as priority access to power and favorable business rates.

The former Octel plant, which produced bromine from seawater, closed in 2004. Carbon3.ai has submitted a planning application to Anglesey County Council for a change of use for the site. While specific details on target capacity and opening dates are not yet available, site plans suggest a single data hall.
