The UK government and Teesworks Ltd are planning a massive AI data center on the site of the former Teesside steelworks near Middlesbrough. If approved, the campus would cover 500,000 square meters, making it the largest data center in Europe. This initiative is part of the government’s national AI Growth Zone strategy aimed at deploying 6GW of AI-capable data center capacity by 2030.
Teesside has been designated as the second official AI Growth Zone alongside Culham in Oxfordshire.
