Media Stream AI is developing a 2MW canal-cooled data center in Salford’s MediaCity, Manchester. The facility will use water from the Rochdale Canal in a closed-loop system to cool Lenovo ThinkSystem servers equipped with Neptune direct-to-chip warm-water cooling. Designed for high-density AI workloads, the site will initially host 1,100 Nvidia H200 GPUs, with expansion capacity beyond 2,300 units.
The project is part of a £50 million investment that also includes a fully automated virtual production studio and robotics lab. Media Stream AI aims to support the UK’s AI sovereignty strategy while delivering sustainable infrastructure with a target PUE below 1.2. The site is expected to go live in Q1 2026 and will serve as the company’s European hub, complementing future deployments in Jamaica, Germany, and France.
