Microsoft Thames Valley Park

The Microsoft Thames Valley Park is a proposed 72MW (IT) data center located in Reading, United Kingdom, on the site of the former Microsoft Campus. This development aims to provide a long-term use for the 5.3-hectare site, responding to declining office space demand while supporting the UK's growing need for digital infrastructure.

The facility will feature on-site fuel cells, initially using natural gas, with the capability to adapt to greener fuels like biomethane and hydrogen. Cooling will be primarily air-based, minimizing water consumption. The project is expected to create significant local benefits, including up to 245 construction jobs and at least 115 full-time equivalent roles, alongside over £200 million in construction investment. It also plans to deliver a minimum 10% Biodiversity Net Gain and explore opportunities for waste heat reuse.

The project team includes BCS Consultancy as project manager, Hilson Moran as consultants, Arup as planning consultants, and Twelve Architects & Masterplanners as architects. The development aligns with local planning policy and aims to strengthen Wokingham's position as a business and innovation hub, while also supporting UK data sovereignty.
