Slate Island Developments

The Spango Valley Campus, located in Greenock, United Kingdom, is the proposed site for a significant data center development by Slate Island Developments. This brownfield site, historically an IBM facility, is being redeveloped to meet modern industrial needs.

The project includes plans for a large data center designed to accommodate 'large floorplate' users, capitalizing on the site's ample space. Alongside the data center, a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) of approximately 99MW is proposed. This BESS will store energy generated from renewable sources, providing a stable power supply to the data center and helping to balance the national grid.

The development is strategically positioned to align with Scotland's ambition to become a hub for green data centers, emphasizing energy efficiency and renewable power sources. The proposals are undergoing detailed assessments covering environmental impact, access, noise, air quality, flood risk, and drainage, with comprehensive technical reports being prepared to support the planning applications. The project aims to secure Planning Permission in Principle (PPP) to allow flexibility for future end-users in detailed design, while adhering to key development parameters.
