Port Talbot Data Centre

Western Bio-Energy has proposed a 12MW facility in Port Talbot, South Wales, designed to leverage biomass-generated power from the company’s Western Wood Energy Plant. The project aims to repurpose a 1.3-hectare site currently occupied by derelict buildings, which would be demolished to make way for the new data center. Western Bio-Energy intends to integrate sustainable energy solutions into the facility, reinforcing its commitment to low-carbon infrastructure.

The data center will consist of a single building, with plans to employ up to 33 people upon completion. Given its proximity to environmentally significant sites, including the Eglwys Nunydd Reservoir, the project may require a full environmental impact assessment before final approval. The facility is expected to contribute to South Wales’ growing digital ecosystem, complementing existing data centers in Cardiff and Newport.
