Avonmouth Data Centre

The Avonmouth Data Centre is a proposed 40MW facility located in Avonmouth, Bristol, United Kingdom. Developed by Rivington Energy in partnership with Viridor Energy, this data center is designed to support AI workloads with high-density racks capable of up to 144kW. A key feature of the project is its power source: it will be directly powered by Viridor's Energy from Waste (EfW) facilities, providing a reliable, long-term energy supply derived from residual waste. This initiative is part of a larger plan by Rivington Energy and Viridor to develop up to 200MW of EfW-powered data center capacity across the UK, with other sites planned in Greater London, Oxfordshire, and Fife. If planning approval is secured, operations at the Avonmouth facility are anticipated to commence in 2027. Viridor operates the largest EfW fleet in the UK, generating over 2,100GWh of baseload electricity annually.
