This facility is designed to provide disaster recovery capabilities for existing SmartHub sites in Fujairah and Dubai, and is positioned as a future telecom hub for the region. Kalba serves as a crucial landing point for the Africa-1 and 2Africa subsea cables. The Africa-1 cable, spanning over 10,000 km, is set to go live by the end of 2023, connecting multiple countries across Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. The 2Africa cable, the world's longest fiber optic cable at 45,000 km, will connect Africa, Asia, and Europe across 33 countries. SmartHub Kalba aims to enhance capabilities and global capacity, acting as a neutral carrier hotel and an ICT bridge between continents, catering to the evolving infrastructure needs of international clients across Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas.
