HIVE Digital Technologies' second Boden facility in Sweden is a unique data center originally developed as part of the EU Horizon 2020 initiative. Known as the Boden Type One data center, it was designed to showcase innovative methods for improving data center efficiency. The facility achieved an impressive Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.0148 through advanced cooling techniques, including synchronized IT and cooler fans, and leveraging the cold ambient temperatures. Its modular design featured four pods tailored for different workloads, including Open Compute Project servers, GPUs for rendering, and crypto mining ASICs.

Acquired by HIVE in 2023, the facility is strategically located to support the company's expansion in Boden. This acquisition aligns with HIVE's commitment to sustainable practices and energy efficiency, further strengthening its position in the digital infrastructure and blockchain industries.

HIVE Sweden 2.0

Initially developed as part of the EU Horizon 2020 initiative, the facility was built by H1 Systems for RISE to demonstrate innovative methods for improving data center efficiency.  After the Horizon 2020 project ended in 2021, the facility was sold to Turis AB, a visual effects rendering business.

In 2023, HIVE acquired the Boden Type One data center from Turis AB for $2.25 million in cash and shares.
