AWS is developing a hyperscale data center in Seo-gu, Incheon, marking its first self-owned facility in South Korea.
The project received construction approval in November 2024, but groundbreaking has not yet commenced. The facility will span 44,812 square meters, qualifying it as a hyperscale data center.
AWS previously operated in South Korea through leased facilities, but rising rental costs and increasing cloud demand prompted the company to establish its own infrastructure.
The data center will consist of two buildings: a primary data center and an auxiliary structure, including parking and support facilities.
AWS has committed 7.85 trillion won ($5.7bn) to South Korea’s cloud infrastructure by 2027, reinforcing its market leadership. The company already operates a cloud region in Seoul and is expanding further with a new AI-focused facility in Ulsan.
This development strengthens AWS’s presence in South Korea’s growing cloud and AI ecosystem.
