KT Cheonan Campus

The KT Cheonan CDC, originally established in 2010 for cloud services, underwent a significant modular expansion in 2014. This expansion focused on creating high-density and high-efficiency infrastructure, allowing for rapid scalability through standardized construction methods. The annex was completed in just five months and reportedly achieved over 10 billion KRW in cost savings compared to previous constructions. A key feature of the expansion is the ability to operate server rooms at 30°C, a significant increase from the typical 22°C. This higher operating temperature, enabled by technology adopted from KT's High Temperature Ambient (HTA) test center, is projected to reduce cooling electricity consumption by over 36%. Furthermore, the facility utilizes free cooling technology, leveraging natural outside air for cooling for approximately 330 days a year, contributing to an estimated annual electricity cost saving of 1.8 billion KRW. KT aims to lead the era of efficient and effective new-concept data centers in preparation for the 'GiGAtopia' era of explosive data growth.
