ARNES Maribor Data Centre

Arnes is developing a state-of-the-art data center in Maribor, Slovenia, designed to support open science, high-performance computing, and long-term research data storage. The facility will serve as a key hub for Slovenia’s digital infrastructure, integrating advanced technologies to enhance scientific collaboration and innovation.

The data center will be directly connected to the European research backbone via the GÉANT network, ensuring high-speed international connectivity. It will also feature supercomputing capabilities, supporting Slovenia’s Artificial Intelligence Factory and enabling researchers to process vast amounts of data efficiently.

Sustainability is a core focus of the project. The facility will utilize clean energy from the Drava River and incorporate solar power generation. Additionally, excess heat from the data center will be repurposed to provide heating for the city of Maribor, reinforcing its commitment to environmentally responsible operations. The center is expected to be completed by 2026 and will play a crucial role in Slovenia’s digital transformation and scientific advancement.
