GREEN MOUNTAIN has defined the following mission statement: "In a mountain, by a cold fjord, you find the world's greenest data centre for secure data storage and power demanding server solutions".
The overall design goal for GREEN MOUNTAIN is to develop a unique world class green data centre. Furthermore the company is focusing on operational reliability and 24-7 availability of necessary services. In total, the quality of this data centre is achieved by focusing on the following major input factors:
. Use of 100% renewable hydro electrical power
. Three independent/partly independent power feed lines
. Redundant availability of free cooling from the fjord
. High fibre capacity - redundant capacity in multiple directions
. Unique fire avoidance and protection system (Hypoxic)
. World class Power Usage Efficiency (PUE)
. High scalability for future purposes
. Mountain vault security
GREEN MOUNTAIN has available about 21.500 m2 of high quality mountain halls which is presently developed into a large scale data centre. The further expansion may allow for CERN to benefit also from other economies of scale effects going forward.
