Google is building its first data center in Norway, located in Skien at Gromstul. The project involves an investment of EUR 600 million (NOK 6.8 billion) and is slated to become operational in 2026. The facility will handle a significant portion of Google's global data storage, including user data like photos, videos, emails, and search history. The establishment is anticipated to create approximately 2000 jobs during construction and around 100 direct jobs once operational. Google acquired the nearly 2000-acre plot in 2019. The initial phase of the campus has been allocated 240MW of power and will be capable of offering waste heat. The data center is seen as a key component for strengthening national data storage capacity and advancing digitalization in Norway.
