Terakraft Sauda I

Sauda I is Terakraft’s flagship data center located in Hellandsbygd, Norway, repurposed from a historic hydropower plant originally built in 1919 and decommissioned in 2008. Terakraft acquired the site in 2021 and began a comprehensive refurbishment to transform it into a high-performance, AI-native facility powered entirely by renewable hydropower.

The data center currently offers 10MW of capacity and supports advanced cooling technologies, including rear door and direct-to-chip liquid cooling. It is optimized for high-density workloads, with rack densities reaching up to 140kW. The facility maintains a low PUE below 1.1 and leverages lake water cooling to enhance energy efficiency.

Sauda I also integrates sustainability features such as heat reuse for greenhouse farming and food dehydration. With expansion potential up to 60MW, the site is positioned to become a leading European hub for AI infrastructure, aligning with the EU’s goals for digital sovereignty and climate leadership.
